Fluorspar

Fluorspar, also known as fluorite, is a mineral derived from volcanic magma. During the cooling process of magma, the hydrothermal fluid separated from the magma contains fluorine. As the fluid rises along rock fractures, fluoride ions in the hydrothermal solution combine with calcium ions in the surrounding rocks to form calcium fluoride, which crystallizes upon cooling and forms fluorite.

    It is widely used in the smelting of metals such as steel and aluminum, serving to lower the melting point, raise furnace temperature, and remove harmful impurities including sulfur and phosphorus. 
    In the chemical industry, fluorspar is the core raw material for producing hydrofluoric acid, which is further used to manufacture Freon, fluoropolymers, fine fluorochemicals, synthetic cryolite and other products. Lithium hexafluorophosphate, a downstream product of hydrofluoric acid, is an electrolyte material for lithium batteries, and high-purity electronic-grade hydrogen fluoride is applied to etching and cleaning processes in semiconductor manufacturing. 
    In the building materials industry, fluorspar acts as a flux, opacifier and enamel component in the production of glass, ceramics and cement, promoting the melting of raw materials. 
    Pure, colorless and transparent fluorspar features low dispersion, low refractive index and excellent filtering performance for ultraviolet and infrared rays, and can be used to manufacture optical prisms, lenses and high-quality optical components. Brightly colored and highly transparent fluorspar is suitable for carving crafts, gem ornaments and mineral specimens. 
    Fluorspar can also be used as a catalyst for dehydration and dehydrogenation reactions. Its downstream products are widely applied in national defense and high-tech fields including aerospace, aviation, refrigeration, medicine, pesticides, electronics, electric power, machinery and atomic energy, and it is listed as a strategic material by many countries.
